MIAMI – Following the twin earthquakes in Venezuela that devastated neighborhoods and disrupted lives of families across the country’s central coast, the Cadillac Championship has committed $10,000 to support on-the-ground relief efforts through Global Empowerment Mission (GEM), a Doral-based humanitarian organization with extensive disaster response experience around the world.

With a strong presence in South Florida, home to one of the largest Venezuelan populations in the United States, the Cadillac Championship recognized an opportunity to mobilize support and raise awareness for those impacted by the disaster. The tournament’s partnership with GEM helps ensure resources reach affected families as quickly and efficiently as possible.

"Hosting the Cadillac Championship brings with it a responsibility to support the community that hosts us,” said Cadillac Championship Executive Director Dave Mack. “We are dedicated to using the tournament's platform to spotlight and support important initiatives that make a meaningful difference.”

Each day, hundreds of volunteers arrive daily at GEM’s Doral warehouses to sort and prepare critically needed donated supplies for transport to Caracas. Through a system supported by the U.S. State Department, GEM gives Venezuelans living abroad and other supporters a trusted way to help people affected by the ongoing crisis.

The tournament consulted Venezuela native and PGA TOUR player Jhonattan Vegas to determine the tournament’s most impactful response to support earthquake relief efforts.

“As a Venezuelan, it’s incredibly meaningful to see the Cadillac Championship and the South Florida community stand with the people of my home country during such a difficult time,” said Vegas. “Doral is home to so many Venezuelan families, and this tournament has recognized that our community’s connection to Venezuela doesn’t stop at its borders. I’m deeply grateful for their leadership, their generosity, and their commitment to helping families begin to recover. I hope this inspires others to join in supporting the relief efforts.”

Following the back-to-back 7.1 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes near Caracas, Venezuela in June, GEM deployed immediate support. Partnering with long-term ally I Love Venezuela, GEM’s recon and emergency response teams arrived within days to assess widespread building collapses and urgent community needs.

Established in response to the 2010 Haiti Earthquake, GEM’s objective is to deliver the most amount of aid, to the most amount of people in need, in the shortest amount of time and with the least amount of costs to donors. To ensure maximum effect in the communities served, GEM’s community impact model directs 97% of every dollar donated to mission-related activities.
